So, the other day, I found myself in a Wal-Mart. The thing about Walmart is that their low low prices tend to lead to impulse purchases. I walked out of the store with a sack full of implulse purchases, most notably two children's books. 1. Inkheart which was apparently translated from the German and was originally called Tintinhertz. It is also allegedly soon to be a major motion picture. 2. Vampire Plagues London, 1850. This appears to be just like Dracula, but with kids! On an unrelated note, I just saw that the P&P movie has been delayed until November. It is now opening the same day as HP4. I am now fully convinced that they want this movie to fail. First, they have Movie Trailer Man on the trailer saying the most inane things EVER (like "the story of a modern woman...who discovers the one person she cannot stand is the ONE man she cannot RESIST.") And now they have it going up against HP. I highly recommend that everyone watch the trailer with the sound off- the dialogue is spot-on and the music sounds lovely, but Movie Trailer Man just ruins the whole thing. You would think that he would have some standards, but I guess he just reads what they put in front of him. And then there's HP4. I saw the teaser trailer while ago on ITunes, but now it is on Yahoo! Movies. The trailer makes me misty-eyed...but the poster is another story. It looks like Harry is wearing TRACKSUIT robes. This is either extremely innovative or extremely stupid. | | 7:51 pm |
This is what I had to say in a form I sent to Garelick Farms today regarding a product of theirs:
I would like to begin by stating that I am a loyal Garelick Farms customer. I go out of my way to by GF milk, as opposed to Hood or the store brand. I am moving at the end of this week, so I popped into the Star Market in Waltham to pick up one of your little 16 ounce bottles of whole milk to hold us over until we move on Saturday. That was yesterday (8/9). Today (8/10), I opened the milk and poured it into my mixing bowl. Much to my surprise, the milk had a chunky consistency like cottage cheese but it did not smell sour.
Needless to say, I found this extremely distressing. Why was my milk chunky? | | Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005 | | 5:47 pm |
1. Reply with your name and I'll respond with something random about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you. 3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in. 4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. 5. I'll tell you my first memory of you. 6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of. 7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you. 8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written. | | Thursday, July 7th, 2005 | | 6:13 pm |
I have started playing Animal Crossing again. I am determined to find all of the fossils and pay off the 230k bells that I owe Tom Nook. Apparently, JQ's new book is #28 on the B&N bestselling list. This makes me want to finish my novel. My problem is that I write a chunk and then I look it over and while I don't hate it, I know it's not my best. And then I find ways to fix the problems I have, but these fixes only seem to come about once every couple of weeks and I can only fix about a paragraph or two at the time. Sigh.
9 days until Harry Potter! I can't wait! | | Saturday, June 25th, 2005 | | 8:10 pm |
An open letter to Susanna Clarke, author of Jonathan Strange and Mr. NorrellI'm sorry I haven't finished your book yet. It's not that your book isn't interesting, but every time I make some progress, something even more interesting distracts me. Right now, I'm in the middle of The Historian, which has kept me absolutely captivated. And then the new Julia Quinn book comes out Tuesday, along with a couple of other historicals. And next month, there will be even better historicals. And as if that isn't bad enough, Barnes and Noble has this "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" promotion going for select titles, so I couldn't resist. I got I'm a Stranger Here Myself, Falling Leaves, and Girl Meets G-d. So, in conclusion, I will finish your book- I'm just not quite sure when. Thank you for understanding. | | Sunday, May 29th, 2005 | | 8:31 pm |
Movie Meme I found this delightful movie meme. It seems to consist mostly of recent movies that were popular with the kiddies or big blockbusters/Oscar winners. But then they try to sneak in some random stuff- I found "The Graduate" lurking around "The Princess Diaries" and "Fever Pitch". Odd.

I found this checklist and I thought I would post it, even though it seems geared towards people born between 1985-1995. But it's weird- there are a few random things from the 1970s in there like Underdog and Mork and Mindy. Go figure. Maybe they ran in syndication on Nick or something.

When I was at the video rental place the other day, I came across a modern version of Pride and Prejudice a la Heckerling's homage to Emma (i.e. Clueless). Unfortunately, it was a little too silly for my tastes and a lot of the translation to the modern world seemed forced. I suppose this is how purists felt about Clueless, but I was not a fan. There is a traditional version of P&P coming out, staring Keira Knightly. It looks interesting, but it can't possibly be better than the Colin Firth A&E version. For the record, we are not the only ones who did not enjoy our dinner out on Sunday. The family from school that we ran into also had an awful time. The mother asked me what I thought of it the next day and I told her that we weren't very impressed. She told me that they won't be going back there any time soon. I watched Amazing Race last night. I was very disappointed to see the boyfriends go. They were my favorite team.
I was bored, so I came up with a list of books, movies and video games that I am looking forward too.

So JQ updated her webpage. She always does at the beginning of each month, but I tend to forget. I am very excited about Hyacinth's book. JQ is probably my favorite author. There are other authors who I am pleased to see on the "coming soon" list, but there is no one whose books I am acutally excited to read as much as JQ.
That's not exactly true. I also get excited for new Lisa Kleypas and Amanda Quick books, but JQ is in a league of her own.
And while we're on the subject, I do admit that I want the new Harry Potter book so much more than JQ's book. Although it's rather convenient that JQ's book comes out first. It will just have to keep me occupied until the Harry Potter book comes out. | | Thursday, April 7th, 2005 | | 10:10 pm |
A meme stolen from lynnoxfordI list my favorite books/series and then you try to guess who my favorite character is. 1. Harry Potter series by JK Rowling 2. Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. lynnoxford guesses correctly. In addition to being the head of the Bridgerton clan, Anthony is an all-around great guy. He is exceedingly kind to Penelope and he has the decency to marry Kate after he is caught in a compromising position sucking bee vemon from her bosom. 3. Hawkscliffe series by Gaelen Foley. Oh, really, who doesn't love Bel? After suffering humiliation and degredation, she fights back by becoming a courtesan and then falls in love...with a duke, no less. 4. Much Ado About You by Eloisa James. Of course it is Draven. Because he was a jerk, but then he grew on me. 5. The Power of One by Bryce Courtaney 6. The Secret History Donna Tartt 7. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Lydia is the best ever. She is just so delightfully silly and egocentric. | | Sunday, March 27th, 2005 | | 10:46 pm |
We went to the grocery store today.
Grocery shopping has become quite a production with us. As the work week draws to a close, I anxiously await the arrival of the weekly circulars. Then I cross reference them with my coupon stash to make the savings grow exponentially. One store will even keep a running tab of how much money you have saved for the entire calendar year.
In any event, even though I have a distinct preference for the scan-your-own grocery station, we have discovered that the scan-your-own machine tends to be rather partiuclar about coupons. This means that we have to use the regular lines.
There is one cashier we avoid entirely because she yells at me.
This one time, I had a coupon for $1 savings on the purchase of 2 Ortega taco kits. I had another coupon for $1 savings on any four Ortega products. So, I purchased 6 Ortega products: three taco kits, two jars of salsa and a can of refried beans. She told me that this was not allowed- she would let it slide this time, but she assured me that I really can't do things like that.
Another time, we had a coupon for $1 savings on three Softsoap liquid hand soap pumps. The coupon did not go through. She literally threw the coupon onto the counter and said (in a nasty voice), "You have to buy three Dove soaps!" Dove soaps indeed! We assured her that we had and to save her the time of getting into the computer and fact-checking our assertions on the computer, we showed her the grocery bag containing said soaps that the bagger had put into our cart. She snatched it away from us to count for herself.
Tonight, we encountered a rather delightful cashier. After processing our order, he stared intently at each coupon as if he was trying to recall scanning the products the coupon were good for. I loved it. For real.
I also loved the new episode of Desperate Housewives. | | Sunday, March 13th, 2005 | | 5:56 pm |
I have not updated in forever. Some people tell me they are tired of coming to my journal and seeing "the kid sleeping on the floor."
Since my last update, I have had my wisdom teeth out. This was quite an experience. I had all four out at once. I also had an IV for the first time. The whole thing took 15 minutes and I don't remember any of it. That is to be expected, but I also don't remember any of the instructions that I was given regarding foods to avoid, etc. Apparently, when I was allegedly, awake, the following exchange took place.
Nurse: ...And no spicy foods Me: But I want buffalo chicken! Nurse: No! Me: But I don't make it so spicy...
I have also read a ton of books- mostly romance novels and general fiction.
I have also begun a new version of "The List." The List is something that we started in college. Places that found their way onto the list were thereafter banned. Recently, I have had some appalling experiences that necessitate the resurrection of the list. More on this later. | | Sunday, January 30th, 2005 | | 11:47 am |
